Read this sucker on a flight with no regrets. But now a I need a sequel to this sequel because I want more Alice, Cat and Rabbit!
Rebecca has done it again with A Court of Hearts and Hunger! There is so much magic in this series and the imaginativeness and originality of this Wonderland retelling is unparallelled. Told through multiple POVs, we get a story that not only features familiar characters from A Court of Sugar and Spice, we get fascinating new characters that captivate and enthrall. This book is so addicting and the spicy scenes get better and better. I can't wait for the next installment and learn more secrets about the magical worlds of the Seelie and Unseelie.

"Everyone in Faerie is mad, mousie. Mad for power, for pleasure, for love, for pain. And you must be mad as well."
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first book in the series, which is why I'm giving it a 3 star rating. I did enjoy the book thoroughly until the ending. I wish it had ended differently. But I still love Clara and the Sugarplum fairy. I can't wait for book three to be released.

This book had some great banter and tension, but the one thing that really annoyed me was the whole virgin aspect. Yes we understand that Alice was a virgin and that made her blood special or whatever, but from how I read it that sends a bad message. That once a female has sex she is forever changed and not worth as much any more? Like she had to stay pure to help defeat the queen, but really, how would having sex alter her blood? I just really hated that aspect, and felt like the book wouldn’t have lost anything if that wasn’t a main point.
Fin and Clara are still perfection.

Maybe almost 2.5 stars
I got this from a friend who didn't realize it was an Alice in Wonderland retelling when she got it so she wasn't interested in it. I went into this entirely blind and...it was not what I expected at all.
The Alice in Wonderland characters are seelie and unseelie fae and it plays into the lore that the fae are very sexual beings so it's like chapter 2 and there's a spicy scene. I was not expecting that! It also didn't help that this is the 2nd book so I felt like I missed some connections and information from book 1. It doesn't detract from the overall story, but I don't feel anything for Clara and Finias since I missed their story in book 1. They are together-together, but have a TINY bit of hesitation in the story too. It was a little awkward for me.
I DID like the story of Alice and the White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat, though. Something about the "kitten" nickname always works...Don't know why, but it does. I liked the White Rabbit, despite it being a very sadistic relationship since he's harvesting (what?) Alice for parts for science to take down the Queen of Hearts. She's also a virgin heroine so that was...interesting...given how they needed her to be a virgin and it's a very spicy book. I think I partially liked them more than Clara and Finias because I got to see their relationship develop through the whole book. Do know, though, Alice's story is not exactly the main focus. Clara and Fin start the book and mostly finish it too. Alice's story is woven through the middle and is the reason for Clara's and Fin's story in this book.
The characters and the nod to Alice in Wonderland was interesting. Not my favorite story so I was connected enough to get the references and appreciate them, but not so disconnected that I had no idea what some of the characters were. It did, admittedly, take me a while to realize that Clara and Finias's story was not the Alice in Wonderland story. Whoops.
If you knew going into this that it was very spicy and had trigger warnings, I think you'd go into it with a different understanding than I did. I'm not against spice or trigger warnings, but I was not expecting it from this book so it was a surprise and maybe not exactly a good one? I found the spice okay. It was not the best written and sometimes I had cringe moments on when the urge came upon them all. I think that was my real problem...I could handle the jealous/possessive and dirty talk fine, but the moments where they decided to get spicy were sometimes strange.
Overall, this was okay. I don't have a desire to go back and read book 1 since I'm not a Nutcracker fan and I don't think I'll continue either.
