Very spicy, so be warned - but the story is actually super fun.
I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series.

I liked this one soooo much better than the first! My favorite character is Fin & we got a whole lot of him & virtually no Louisa (thank God). There was significantly more relationship building between Clara & Fin that I enjoyed. The development between Alice & her captors was getting a little Stockholm-y for me, so I’m glad it ended with Alice going back home but keeping the Talma Olc for herself. It leaves the door open & she could potentially go back to the dread court on more equal footing to Riordan & Caer.

The same was that book 1 was an ACOMAF, this one was an ACOTAR retelling. It came complete with the dread court/under the mountain, Amarantha/red queen, illiterate human who is the eventual downfall of the untouchable ruler, men of questionable morals doing bad things for good reasons.

This was absolutely wild. It’s been a while since I’ve read the first book but the second was a dark, sexy surprise! I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to snag the next book.

I jumped into this sequel after devouring the first book.  I loved the Wonderland was being incorporated into Faerie!

That being said, this book was a looooot darker than the first one. At least in my opinion.  I cringed my way through certain scenes for sure. The writing was spectacular,  though.

On to book three!

“Are you ready to dredge up the darkest impulses of your wild heart, stir up every naughty compulsion, voice every cruel thought? Are you ready to step with me into the darkness?”

A Court of Hearts and Hunger is the sequel to A Court of Sugar and Spice. Like the first book, it is a story retelling, but this time, the feature story is Alice in Wonderland. Clara and Finias travel to the Unseelie lands to attempt a rescue of Alice.

Once again, I really love the characters that Kenney creates. She takes characters we already know and love, and she turns them on their head. The Queen of Hearts and Heartless were particularly interesting takes on their characters. I also really enjoyed the Cheshire cat. While I liked Alice and the White Rabbit, I didn’t love them as much as Clara and Finias. Their relationship felt unresolved, but maybe we’ll get to see more in the next book. Then again I may be biased because I love Finias’s character so much.

The plot writing has improved since the first book; however, I feel like the plot still needs to be fleshed out a little more. In this particular book, it felt like little was happening between Alice and the White Rabbit until towards the very end, and then everything happened all at once feeling rushed. The plot line featuring Clara and Finias felt much more developed. I’m hoping in future books, balance will be achieved between all the characters resulting in a phenomenal story retelling.
