I got this book at a "blind date with a book" event about 6 years ago. I have no memory of what the "blind date" description was, but somehow (based on my usual self) I doubt it was super romantic.
(fun fact, I also got [b:The Best of Me|10766509|The Best of Me|Nicholas Sparks|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1301685366l/10766509._SY75_.jpg|15677976] from this same event. Ugh)

Anyway, my friend said I should finally read it, so I did. I 100% thought I was in for some boring historical fiction or something. NOPE. Oddly enough, I did enjoy parts of it. I really enjoyed the beautiful pictures painted by the words.

HOWEVER
**SPOILERS**
I thought the bit at the end with the kids reading the letter was WEIRD. It kind of ruined the whole thing for me. It was almost like she was bragging about this secret life she had and how great it was and they'll never have it but hey he's family... It was just, unsettling. The jazz musician after that almost redeemed it for me... almost.

Don't read this in public, unless you don't mind seeing you blubbering...

A true story of the most romantic and least satisfying affair ever.

It was good but not wonderful and amazing like the people who suggested I read this said it was. I don't know what it was but I just couldn't wait to finish the book, I wanted it to end so I could move on to something better. I didn't feel any kind of connection to the characters and I didn't care how their love story ended mainly because it all happened so fast like within a very short amount of pages.

I like the story, but wasn’t a fan of how it was told. It was a bit cringy at times and it’s been a long time since I saw the movie, but I bet I would still prefer that to the book.
