This book starts off with Tess and Shade and the crew of the Endeavor finding themselves in a potentially sticky situation, again. And the rebel leaders have tasked them with the rescue of one of their own scientists. It will not be an easy rescue, but then when has anything ever been easy for them?

Tess and Shade are still the same great characters as before. They are fully committed to each other, though Tess still has some reservations about Shade’s past actions. Both of them have their faults, and insecurities, but their loyalty to each other and to their fellow crew members are not in doubt. Tess is a strong, decisive woman, who is usually at the front of any action. Shade finds this hard to deal with, but he knows who she is, and he loves her for it.

This was a very thrilling read. The action was very well described, and very well paced. Lots of excellent surprises and shocks in there as well. I loved it, and can’t wait to read the next installment.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC. Any thoughts and opinions are my own.

Being back with Tess and Shade on the Endeavor was amazing and this time the stakes are higher! Tess and Shade need to work on their trust issues now that he has given up everything to become a rebel along with her. The development of their relationship was quite quick in the previous book and it was realistic to see that they didn't have the easy road and had to work out the problems between them. Tess has issues with Shade's past and it doesn't help that he'd betrayed her previously. Shade also needs to adjust to his new life which is more dangerous than before and he has to figure out his place in Tess' life as she already has an established family with her friends and crew members.

On top of everything we've got the problem of the Overseer and a new assignment from the rebels that involves them breaking out prisoners from the most secure place in the galaxy. What's our team gotta do to catch a break eh? No time for that when you have to save the galaxy!

Amanda Bouchet is one of my favorite fantasy romance authors and she's equally great at writing sci fi romance too! We get to see a lot more of the galaxy in this one and new secrets are revealed (I had a feeling about Nate since Nightchaser). I loved the addition of Sanaa and we get to see more of Merrick! They're both kick-ass and I'm totally rooting for them!
Another plus was the fact that both Tess and Shade's chapters were in first pov as I'd found it a little distracting in Nightchaser when the chapters switched between first and third povs.
The action really ramps up in this one and by the end it really peaks! I feel that it might be just too easy if the Overseer is actually dead so I'm guessing that we might be seeing more of him in the next one! I can't wait to see how this trilogy ends and the decisions that Tess and her crew are going to make!
Thanks to Sourcebooks and Netgalley for my ARC! Starbreaker is out now so make sure to grab it or read Nightchaser if you haven't already! It was one of my favorites from 2019!

I'm still enjoying this series. It feels like a cable TV sci-fi show, in a good way :p

description

Starbreaker continues the story of Tess Bailey, who is a very fierce heroine. Like the previous book Nightchaser, this one is also action-packed, romantic at the right moments, and suspenseful. The trust between Tess and her love interest Shade was broken, but they both are trying to deal with them in this book. I loved seeing them grow stronger as individuals and as a couple. They are such a great and strong match. I also enjoyed getting to know all the side-characters better. They elevate the story so much and the interaction between them is phenomenal. There are a couple of secrets uncovered that I saw coming, but the author still managed to keep me on my toes.

I don't read a lot of sci-fi (romance) novels, because I am afraid of the very intricate world building taking over the story/plot. But Amanda Bouchet has done a great job with this series, because everything is explained really well, and it is very easy to understand. So I would recommend romance readers who haven't dived into sci-fi to give this series a chance. I think Starbreaker was a great addition to the Endeavor series, and the ending has me excited to see what will happen next. I love the characters and I look forward to seeing them grow even more and see what danger they will face next.

Solid 4.5/5
Small cliffhanger ending but this second part of a SciFi adventure is every bit as enjoyable as book 1. Loved the new characters and some of the plot twist along the way. Can't wait for the conclusion.

I enjoyed this second book in the Endeavor series. Admittedly I had to do a quick review of the end of book one to recall how things had wrapped up but if you're looking for a solid sci-fi with some romance, consider picking this series up.

The story took me on quite a ride as there is plenty of action and with the introduction of new characters, we get to learn more about what's at stake and what Tess is willing to do to help others. I thought Bouchet did a fantastic job of keeping me engaged in the story by including a number of twists and turns.

As Tess and Shade's relationship is pretty new, they continue to learn more about each other and while their connection is strong, they are still learning to trust each other and sometimes the past comes back to haunt them. Similar to the first book, the secondary characters were well developed and it felt like they were much more involved in the story, which I loved.

I definitely recommend checking out this series if you haven't yet. It has strong characters, an interesting story, and if you know me, you know I like romance too...which this one has.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Bouchet opens up the world, but never loses the heart of her story: Tess & Shade. I didn't think I could love them more. I was wrong. Rich worldbuilding and deep character arcs abound. Be prepared to devour STARBREAKER.
