Thank you to @katietallo and @harperperennial for the #gifted e-book.

This captivating thriller and mystery will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Three years ago, Gus’s partner, Howard, vanished during a camping trip, leaving behind a lingering cloud of uncertainty. Now, as Gus and her daughter, Bly, return to Prince Edward County, they stumble upon his hidden camper, a mysterious notebook, a cell phone, and a chilling final video message. These discoveries reignite their quest for the truth, driving them to delve deeper into the story Howard was pursuing and uncovering the shocking secrets behind his disappearance.

Told through the heart and eyes of twelve-year-old Bly, this story is as poignant as it is suspenseful. The characters are richly developed, and the mystery of Howard's disappearance, and the possible involvement of others, kept me guessing right up until the very end. Each twist and turn unfolded seamlessly, heightened the tension and kept me enthralled.

What truly set this story apart was the unconventional bond between Gus and Bly. They are not just mother and daughter; they are an inseparable team, navigating through increasingly perilous situations together.

This is the third installment in the Gus Monet series, but it stands strong on its own. If you crave gripping thrillers with unexpected twists and a rollercoaster of emotions, this book is a must-read and is available now.

Slow paced and I didn't like the ending.
dark mysterious tense fast-paced

I quite enjoyed this thriller. It was fast-paced and with so many twists, turns, characters, and puzzle pieces, it was easy to stay engaged with every page.

I thought the characters were well developed and particularly liked the mother-daughter dynamics between Gus and Bly. I also loved how a few other characters played out (and that's all I'll say so I remain, as always, spoiler-free in my reviews) as the mysteries unraveled.

I will say that I had a lot figured out pretty easily and there was a level of predictability to this. I don't feel like it took away from it though, because there were enough small details to the big picture that I didn't guess!

I didn't realize this was part of a series until I finished it, which I think speaks to the ability of this to be a standalone. At no point was I confused or lost, so the author did a great job providing the right amount of background information without making it seem like I missed something.

Big thanks to the author, Katie Tallo & the publisher, Harper Perennial for providing me with an eArc of Buried Road! 💖

A fun read that read like a movie

I would consider this more of a suspenseful mystery than a thriller. Personally, I found that the plot was a little slow, then it would randomly pick up pace here and there before it pulled me in for the last fourth of the book. Reading from Bly’s POV was different since she’s just a pre-teen, but I enjoyed her character and how she matured. Overall, it was a good read!

I don’t enjoy children as narrators and I guessed the twist early on.
