My sweet boy fell asleep mid-way through this. But I wouldn't take that as a bad sign, because isn't that the point of bedtime reading?

He was absolutely enjoying it, though, the beautiful illustrations and rhyming style. I don't know if he was actively absorbing the stories, but he surprises me constantly with how much he learns while I think he's ignoring me. I hope he absorbed so much positivity and pride radiating from these pages.

Phenomenal!!!

I don’t even have kids and I read this with my fellow 28 year old friend and we both very much enjoyed it and learned some things!

I’ll be gifting this to every child I know for sure.

The ABCs of Black History // by Rio Cortez

I loved this book! It was so much fun to read and really engaging. The illustrations were great and the rhyming had a really good rhythm. This book is a great introduction to both the letters of the alphabet as well as history for any child!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free sample in exchange for an honest review.

I purchased and read this book because it was amongst the 197 books that have been banned by Florida. For the life of me I cannot see why this book was banned.

I have a weakness for rhyming picture books in general and this one is beautiful.

It takes the familiar format of providing words for each letter of the alphabet, but provides a focus on Black America.

There is also then more information provided at the end of the book for topics and people mentioned.

I think we can all take something from it, no matter what age.
