I was looking for a quick read and this book didn’t disappoint. I have never read a book involving a lesbian couple but more importantly a lesbian couple of color and for the first one I really enjoyed the story. I loved how the book was told from two time frames. The first being the present and the second being the past. I also loved how the book focused on these two specific characters and their lives. I loved how the story had a little back story but it wasn’t too much that overwhelmed the reading. I liked how the characters were able to work through their issues and hurt and to come to a resolution.

This is a book I would highly recommend and I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

So if you’re looking something out of the box, easy read, and enjoyable I would highly recommend you pick this up.

So much love for this gorgeous cover! And for Avon publishing a f/f romance!

Likotsi Adelele, Advisor Most High to an African prince, is spending her one rare day off trying to forget Fabiola C., the woman who "ghosted" her after a few short dates 8 months earlier by visiting the NYC sights she and Fab planned on seeing together. But when she runs into Fabiola on the subway, and Fabiola seems to want to pick up where they left off (despite having been the one to end things originally), Likotsi has her doubts. The story switches back and forth between the present and the past, when the two first met and dated, until Fabiola finally is ready to explain to Likotsi why she cut off their relationship so abruptly. Never got a good sense or feel why Fabiola couldn't have just explained the issue at the start, which made it hard for me to really get invested, emotionally, with the romance.

Cole's prose continues to shine, but the storyline here didn't draw me in. And I didn't feel I knew what was at stake for either character early enough in the story to really root for them or their romance.

I haven't read any of the other books in the series (and likely won't because they seem to be M/F), and honestly just picked this up a couple years ago because it's difficult to find actual queer romances in stores. So glad I finally read it!

The relationship between Likotsi and Fab is perfectly full of angst. With a happy ending, of course.... I hope to see this author return to write more centered on this couple, it feels like a novella isn't nearly long enough to convey their story.
