[a:Alyssa Day|35023|Alyssa Day|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1251143528p2/35023.jpg]'s [b:Atlantis Rising|396929|Atlantis Rising (Warriors of Poseidon, #1)|Alyssa Day|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255986234s/396929.jpg|386403] is fun. It takes a certain chuzpe to mix Plato's vision/version of Atlantis (including Poseidon, sunken island(s), the trident...) with contemporary Easy Rider / biker gangish urban fantasy, but the result is a hilarious entertainment if one can stomach "real magic" (as in "violating the laws of physics, nature, and the universe[tm] magic") and thinking of an over six foot tall Atlantean prince being called Tarzan.
However, I found myself flipping over the sex scenes - not because they weren't hot (they were), but because the prose was too purple (and variant colored flashes of lights) for my tastes. A tad more down to earth (or ocean) would have done wonders for mood & effects there.
I'm definitely going to read the next book in the series when I need some cheering up, though! :-)

I loved this series and can’t wait to read the rest of it. Thankfully they are all already written so the only thing getting in my way of finishing the series is all the other great books I need to read. :) Conlan and Riley were wonderful characters and together they leap out of the story and grab you by the throat. They are obviously made to be together and when they finally meet, the heat that flairs is enough to light the world on fire. If you haven’t picked up this series yet I recommend you do so ASAP and join me in the journey to Atlantis and back.

I probably would rate it differently. Alyssa have a writing potential, but this copycatting is epic fail. Total copy of Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The copy style was so strong that made me sick... What we have?

a) A king of a spices which is supposed to be long gone hiding from people
b) A ordinary woman which is not so ordinary
c) Warriors which are loyal to their king and protect him. A long haired warrior, warriors with names like Vengeance and Justice o.O
d) A man who gave a vow to not sleeping with women...
e) A God watching over the people of Atlantis...
f) The symbol on their bodies remaining of a tattoo?

Sounds familiar?

Shall I keep going? This is not a book with its own life and style... Its a copy of a book published 2 years before this one, just Mrs. Day took the fangs away and put them in the bottom of the ocean. EPIC FAIL, EPIC.

Even though this is the first in the Atlantis series, this is not my first story by Alyssa Day. I actually started with a short story in a collection that included one of my favorite authors and discovered her there. From that novella I started to pick up the more recent Atlantis stories except I didn't start at the beginning so now I'm trying to get caught up. It was great to be re-introduced to characters I've already fallen in love with when I read their stories but to also see how it all began. I've always loved the tarnished hero who finds love and redemption through his heroine. And Riley really was my kind of heroine. She'd charge in to protect her man but maybe with one eye closed because she was pretty darn scared but she didn't let that stop her. Great read that makes me want to re-read what I've already got on my bookshelf.

I enjoyed "Atlantis Rising". It was action packed, suspenseful, and romantic. So much goes on in this first book. We have vampires & were-critters living among humans out and about. We have Atlanteans sworn to protect humans, but they must stay unknown to the world. We have the warriors and their priest on a quest. Conlan the high prince and his 7 warriors are all supposed to marry Atlantean virgin's, but we have Conlan who falls in love with a very unique kind of human Riley.
Great Read! I plan to read the rest of the series.

okay. So I have.. 13 audio books checked out. Yes 13. I am a nut ball. But I can listen to books at work so yay me. But I was sitting at work and I couldn't decide what to listen to. I just had too many options. So I picked this one because I kinda thought it would be ridiculous. Atlantis and Warriors of Poseidon.. I don't know. I was thinking Mermen and shit. It was late on Friday when I started. But jokes on me because I freaking loved this book.

First off I love Riley. She was super sweet but she also stood up for herself. A lot of times characters are too 'strong' and it just comes off bitchy or they are too sweet and they end up a push over. Well Riley was a good mixture of both. She gets thrown into a crazy world with these He-man Atlantis Warriors and she holds her own. Which is a good thing because she has caught the attentions of Conlan, The Prince of Atlantis.

I like him as well. He makes a few mistakes, sure but who doesn't. Since they meet at the very start of the book I can't say what he was like before he met Riley but I will say that I like them together. I think they are defiantly stronger as a couple and I think that they will be great leaders. I am excited to see how they progress in the series.

I will definitely be going on with the series! There is so much going on with the vampires attacking and trying to take over and I love all the warriors. They are funny and so completely different so I am excited to learn more about them.

This book was really interesting. Loved the mythological aspects in it.
I had never read a book about the myth of Atlantis before.
Also, I missed reading about a brotherhood of warriors like the Warriors of Atlantis.
I can't wait to read about Denal, the sweet young one and Alaric, Poseidon's priest, even though he was really pissing me off with his "I have the power of Poseidon on my side, so don't defy me, boy!" ways.

This is the first book I read by this author and while the plot was good, in my honest opinion, the book itself was not :(
The switch in POV was nice and pretty unique, but it got a bit too much, especially when you got to the steamy scenes. It just made it overly long and weird, and I must admit I skipped much of those scenes (can’t believe I’m saying this!).

I know as this is a first in the series, the author would want to paint a picture of their world, slowly introduce everyone, … But the character development was just about decent. There wasn't any depth to the characters. I would have thought Riley would have needed a longer time to adjust and come to terms with what was happening, but well, she leaped pretty much straight into the unknown :)
Conlan was also pretty blasé about what their relationship would mean to the Atlanteans and while you know what happened in his recent past, we don't really know anything about him (or anyone else for that matter).
I think of all the characters in this book, I like Alaric and Ven the most :D One is dark, broody and powerful as hell and the other is a killing machine with a fun and playful side.

Pacing and flow were good, though as earlier stated, the switching of POV was detrimental to the overall flow and feel of the story.

The book itself was well written with only a small error here and there, nothing that bothered me while reading. And yes, there is sex described in this book (if that is important to you).

All in all, I’m pretty sad it didn't turn out as good as I had hoped it would be, so I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series or not.
