This book is the ultimate culmination of what the series is trying to tell us; which is that war is brutal and utterly without mercy. It wrecked me, it feels like a tragedy that you can see coming but can do nothing to stop. I knew Rin was too far gone to be able to come back and I love that she finally saw why former rulers conceded, it felt like the inevitable end not only for her character but for the nation as a whole.
