Okay. I did it. I read it. And my ears twitched hard every time the N word appeared. That is a lot of twitching. And also, I am just not a "boy on an adventure" kind of girl.

The plot and adventure within are better than that of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It remains a classic. However, re-reading this as an adult was slightly difficult with the wording from the time period and class of characters.

This story had a good beginning. I enjoyed Huck and Jim's early adventures;

however, the story took an unenjoyable turn when Twain introduced two additional characters into their adventures. Then, once rid of them, it took an additional unenjoyable turn when he reintroduced Tom Sawyer into the story.

I did enjoy how things played out in the end.

Today, a story such as this proves to be a difficult read because of the attitudes portrayed towards slaves/slavery and because of the racial language used to tell the story.
