The book is a tale of the innocence of boyhood, coupled with an artistic depiction of one of humanity’s gravest crimes: slavery. Through witty storytelling, it's a powerful critique of the social norms of the 19th-century US. No wonder this remains one of the greatest books of all time. I wonder why it took me so long to read it. I should’ve done so years ago.

This took me shamefully long to read but that's Val Kilmer's fault for dying. Was kinda busy mourning the bloke who showed me Mark Twain.. such a classic story though. I hope I have a son like Huck one day. I love Jim as well and I love that Huck is so #woke

Yet another one that’s mainly not for me. Part of my road to reading to get to James. I can appreciate what this was for its time, and its satirical elements, especially how this narrative was probably progressive for the time. And I know this was one of the first novels written in American vernacular. But this is a meandering, messy novel that often feels at odds with itself.

I would rather never hear Elijah Wood say the n-word ever again, thank you very much.

I mean, it’s of its time? I liked it more than I expected to.
