Toni was just a treasure of a mind and artist. Really loved the last essay. Overall, it's academic in mode and tone, but the ideas, 30+ yrs later, we really haven't begun to apply or fundamentally grapple with them in our arts. Also in terms of criticism, this book offers so much. The why and how of critiquing an art object for the sake of exploring larger ideas about our country and collective imagination is to be appreciated in these 3 essays. Glad I finally found my way to it.
