I am very surprised this hasn't been made into a movie yet. It is a fantastic read. The things this man goes through is almost unbelievable. It's a great, quick read. Check it out.
Listened to the audio version. Usually I can listen to books a little faster than normal speed but not this one. I didn’t want to miss anything so kept it at normal speed.
Amazing true story of how one man survived escaping the Germans with the help of Norwegians during WWII. He was caught in an avalanche, buried alive, left on a plateau, had frost bitten toes and cut them off himself with a pocket knife! The story is incredible! And to all the people who helped him under the German’s noses- talk about good Samaritans. The ending was quite abrupt and it could have had a little more at the end.
Here’s an article in The NY Times that I found that highlights the story:

The is another book, “Defiant Courage” and a couple movies - one on Netflix, The 12th Man, out about this story also.

A biography of a Norwegian who (along with his comrades) went to the far north intending to assist the Norwegian resistance during WW2. It all went to custard basically. But his escape is a pretty amazing tale - obviously a lot came down to his own endurance, but the persistence and courage of those who assisted him really shine.
Man, what a great story! I DEVOURED this book in a single sitting on a plane trip. I was gifted this book by a friend and now I have to get him something really good.

3 stories for the book and writing. 4 if it was just the story. This book was published in 1954 and it definitely reads like that, but that's not why I only gave it 3 stars. It had several typos and misspellings and was just not edited very well I felt. It also ends rather abruptly, although it gives a summary epilogue.
This is an incredible and unbelievable adventure story. Well written Enjoyed listening to the audio book with my family. Generally family friendly, except maybe one word.
Wonderful, engaging story of the amazing ability of one man to overcome incredible odds and survive in an extremely hostile environment.
