“i didn’t have any words. not in any language.” this book was so powerful and brought tears to my eyes multiple times. it’s horrible that this is today’s reality.

Maybe it’s because of the timing (there was another school shooting today), but I find myself sort of angry that we’re creating media for enjoyment based on the murder of children in their schools. I recognize that it’s on me for choosing to pick this up in the first place, but I’m just having a hard time accepting anyone’s “take” on school shootings anymore.

Lots of great ideas but the book was just okay. I enjoyed the narrative ark of the story but felt as if the added romance was unnecessary where other ideas could have been explored more.
Graphic: Mass/school shootings

I just can’t give this a higher rating when the author didn’t give appropriate credit to Columbine with her book. Too many parallels not to give Columbine victims the nod they deserve.

I am so happy I randomly picked up with book. As I think I said in the past Kody never disappoints. This was a tragic story. It was…I don’t want to say it was a tragic story, however it was a story of a school shooting and the aftermath. It was a story of how a thought of a town can overshadow truth. How people can turn on victims. But it is also a story of survival and coping and how people need different things after a trauma. How trauma changes people, how stories build up, how truths get hidden and how people take on burdens large and small that change and shape them. I am really glad that I picked up this book.

Honestly, my lack of love for our main protagonist brought this story down.
