Wanted to like it more than I did. Unfortunately something just wasn't clicking.
On the other hand, Lestat is a pretty fun character to follow and I was a bit more invested in what he was doing in his immortal life, Gabrielle (leaving out the weirdness of her relationship with Lestat) was definitely my favorite character from the 2 books I read. Really wanted to see more of her in particular.
And again, some passages had such a fever dream quality to them same as the first book. I'm unclear on how I feel about it yet (a bit positive maybe).

"And after all, I had never been very good at obeying rules."
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would!! This book is perfection! Not only does it explain so much of Lestat's behavior and trauma, it's a massive deep dive into different parts of history. One of the reasons I adore Anne Rice and her writing is the way she brings different historical periods to life. Lestat, from Louie's pov, is awful and cruel. To be fair, he definitely is. But in this book, it explains so much of why Lestat acts and reacts the way he does. He was severely abused, abandoned by those he loves, and endured unspeakable trauma. No it doesn't excuse his behavior but his pov is heartwrenching. There is so much to unravel about Lestat in his story, but also the other vampires in the story.

Bit of a pivot in narration style makes this almost feel standalone
