This is a fairly well-written and engaging book on its own merits, if a trifle tedious in its description of lengthy paramilitary campaigns. As a conclusion to a series that partly marketed itself as a bridge between the novel and Legacy comic continuities, however, it is an unmitigated failure that taints the otherwise excellent Fate of the Jedi series irredeemably.
This book, and by extension the entire series, does virtually NOTHING to reconcile the state of affairs between the two timelines other than providing weak foreshadowing of events that are a foregone conclusion to Legacy comic readers anyway, and yet its choice of such an overwhelmingly threatening villain will make any future attempt to rectify the series' false advertising seem either weak or overblown. Furthermore, for every step forward the book takes in filling in the blanks, it takes an even bigger step backwards, creating more uncertainties that will eventually have to be made to match up with a future that has already been plotted. At this point in the ongoing story, more complexity is not really a good thing.
I wish it were possible to reconcile my approval of the quality of writing in this series with my disappointment that it completely failed to do what I started reading it for in the first place. I will certainly be more circumspect with how much I trust the marketing of Star Wars books in the future. It is sometimes easy to forget, when such talented people are involved in producing it, that the Star Wars property is far more about merchandising than it is about good storytelling.

Slow start but fast and intense towards the end. This series was dragged and filled with filler but it was pretty good. Better than legacy of the force

The first 2/3 of the book is fine for the most part. It more or less just feels like runoff from the previous book, but the final third of the book feels like a rushed mess.
This is the only title in the series that I listened to (audio book). In terms of an audio book it was very well done. Lots of character voices, especially Tha-Root (sp?) just made me feel part of it all. I really enjoyed the Luke and Ben Skywalker + Vestara Khai mix. However I felt unfulfilled at the end. Not knowing anything else about the universe, yet this finale really sunk its teeth into me. The immersion and story were fun and exciting. A few fights with Abeloth were especially nail biting. But the ending, as many other readers have said, just didn't do it justice. I can imagine it even more so if I have read the entire series.
In any case, more audio books of Star Wars for me please!

Great finish to the series! I was a bit apprehensive given my negative reading of the previous book in the series but this left me feeling good about reading the 8 or so books in the series.
It would have been nice if all the books in this series had the tone of this book, but I guess it would have been nice if Troy Denning wrote all nine of them. I wasn't super thrilled by the inclusion of the Clone Wars mythology, but at least that was balanced out with the Legacy stuff.
I enjoyed the book and the series - however the series is way way way too long! I was skip listening by book 6.
The production is top notch.
This battle for the survival of the galaxy finally comes to a close - or does it? The ending is rather underwhelming

The Ending was subpar. They left a lot open for future novels which to this point they have avoided doing. Still a great read, just wish they would have wrapped up their storylines a little better.
