I'm still pretty new to reading urban fantasy, though I seem to be reading it a lot now. I liked this one more than I thought I would. I decided to give it a try because the title was something I needed for a task. It started out a little slow for me, but by 30% in I was definitely interested and it kept my interest the whole time after that. Will definitely read more. I liked Kate a bunch.
Kicking myself for not having read this sooner. Despite seeing some negative reviews for this book, I actually enjoyed this.
Curran and Kate are the perfect example of how I love relationships to start off. I loved how their romance was almost nonexistent. It wasn't even romance, more like this brewing tension between them, which is my favorite. I can't wait to see where their relationship goes.
Definitely enjoyed this paranormal and fantasy world, bring on book 2!

First read: November 1, 2010. Three Stars.
Re-read: May 25, 2012. Five Stars.
I love this series. It was a good re-read. I picked more up on the time line of the characters and the flirtations between Curran and Kate. I love when she sent him the saucer of milk.

The kick-off to a series I think I will greatly enjoy, Magic Bites takes us to a dangerous world parallel to our own where it seems that the only thing standing between us and it is Kate Daniels, a spunky, tough heroine. Admittedly, the book was a bit hard to follow at first, but once all the explanations came out of the way, I found myself enjoying it more and more.
Kate is not a heroine I would like initially, but the more she interacted with other characters, she seemed like less and less of a girl with abandoned parent issues. I like that Kate kept her cool under pressure and, even though men were fawning after her, she managed to turn them down in a way that is rather self-actualizing and had nothing to do with virtue. I like that she can kiss a guy, savor the feelings, and then get right back into kickassery. She's a pretty complete package, yet I do want to see some more vulnerability. Perhaps this will come up in later tomes.

I'm a sucker for mythology and smart-mouthed, ass kicking main characters.
This book has both, and, unlike any adult paranormal I've read, the twist actually managed to shock me.
But it was an introduction and I feel like I wasn't given much - or enough- to love this as much as I could.
Looking forward to book two.

I love this book.
It has great protagonists and side characters.
The worldbuilding is interesting and well imbedded into the plot.
The "romance" is not too overwhelming and works well with the overall storyline.
All in all a great read.

I absolutely loved this book. I don't even know why I hesitated starting it when I have already read the books in the Hidden Legacy series and adored them. I finished in a day, I honestly don't remember when was the last time I read so quickly and it has probably been even longer since I felt that rush when you can't wait to turn the page to find out what happens next. I love Kate and I'm so excited to read more about her and the pack. As always Ilona Andrews create secondary characters that you come to love as much as the the main ones.
I’ve tried reading this book twice already and I just can’t get into it. I’ll have to try again in the future.

I really fucking enjoyed this, it made me laugh my arse off several times and the authors managed to get the balance of real human reactions/emotions and a fantasy world just right.
