I really liked the story of her/their life/lives, but as a vegetarian, I struggled a bit with some of the food talk. Which I expected. So, I'm glad I read it, but... well, am not recommending it.

One of my favorite books that embodies France, cooking, and Julia Child (obviously).

Appreciated Julia Child's love of France and food, but just couldn't get into this story.

My Life in France tells the story of how Julia Child came to love France and it's food and how this love started her down a career of cookery-bookery and celebrity that she hadn't imagined.
I was delighted by Julia from the first page! She is such a fun story teller and doesn't take herself too seriously. As an expat living abroad, it was fun to read about another person's journey of finding their "spiritual home" as she calls it. I wanted to crawl into the book and sit in Julia's kitchen as she cooked or go on an adventure to the market with her. I wanted to be a guest at one of her & Paul's dinner parties. She seems like the type of person I'd love to know. I was truly sad to reach the end of her book.

I loved how this book enabled me to be in Julia's world and see what she did. I am envious but it was so pleasant. Even in spite of challenges and hardships she has a positive attitude and it inspires me to maintain that within my own life!

I read this book initially more for the France part of it than Julia Child, about whom I didn't know much. But I'm SO glad I read it. She was such a charming, vivacious, intelligent woman! I loved reading about her marriage and the beginnings of her career in food. A lovely book.
