Not my favorite of Reynold's books, this was still pleasant and other-worldly.

Finch Nobles is a young woman who was severely burned on her face and upper body when she was a child. The resultant scars have caused Finch to withdraw from the stares and cruel comments of people, especially children, and she retreats into her home and the cemetery which she tends on her family's land. Eventually she learns that if she listens long and hard enough that she can hear the voices of the dead in the graveyard. In fact, when she speaks to them, they can answer. In the conversations the dead tell Finch their individual stories and she comes to understand that regrets, longings, and the desire to explain feelings and behaviors doesn't end with death. As each character is developed, clear themes of grief, forgiveness, and redemption are revealed. If you are a fan of Spoon River Anthology and Our Town, this is the book for you.

I just can't get on board with books about people who hang out with "the dead"...

Almost exclusively dialogue between characters (1 alive and most of the rest dead). Did not care for the writing style or story. Fast, and easy read though - live a YA level story.

This book was a pleasant surprise. The length was perfect to devour it in a few days and at no point was it predictable. The imagery was just real enough to keep me wrapped up in the descriptions without being too over the top. There are dark themes that I didn't even see coming. Highly recommend.

Interesting story and characters. Not what I expected, but it drew me in.
