A Forgery of Fate was beautifully written, but the romance plotline just didn't work.
From old male mentor to lover? No thank you. Pretending to be Gaari while manipulating her into painting to destroy Zazayun and making Tru think her friend was dead is a borderline toxic relationship. Not to mention that he stalked her for years...
. There are also so many unanswered questions, but the ending really bothered me:
sure, dragons are immortal, but did how did Elang just materialize three years later as a fully grown man?
The book was also incorrectly marketed as Six of Crows, but that's not the author's fault.

It was a cute story, loved the beauty and beast inspirations as well as the Asian influences. Gave me studio Ghibli vibes.

Elizabeth Lim delivers another well-crafted fantasy that you'll wish wouldn't end!

The magic was beautiful and integral to the story. The dragons were formidable. And the love story tragic and sweet. A perfect read that made me want to start at the beginning as soon as I'd reached the end.

Truyan Saigas is a master forger, eking out a living for herself and her sisters, paying back her mother’s debts — after Baba was lost at sea.

Caught in one swindle too many, she finds herself in the home of a demon prince, half man-half dragon, cursed and exiled from the dragon realm. Elang offers a deal: marry him and help him to break his curse, and she will not lose her family to those in pursuit.

Elizabeth Lim turns in another vividly painted, lush underwater world, where Truyan and Elang face politics and betrayal…while they navigate a sham marriage of convenience where love begins to ring true.

“Scourge of Saino, what was it about Elang that made me want to slap him one minute, then kiss him the next? He was growing on me.”

Said to be Beauty and the Beast and a bit Little Mermaid, this is all Elizabeth Lim. Delicious, and in true style — the ending brought me to tears.
