Didn’t care about characters, was bored
Idk if it’s because I haven’t read the other series first but there was no world building just things stated as facts so confused about the magic system and stuff - bc of this it felt like I was watching a Disney movie based on how things were described (not bad just felt as if no depth there)

Premise was really cool, buuuut I didn't really get from it what i was expecting. The twists and turns were fun, but at the same time i didnt really believe the main romance. Just didnt really strike me as the thing is was meant to be I suppose!! Was a very easy read tho, flew through it!

TL;DR: A young woman desperately tries to support her family. Her salvation comes in the form of a half dragon prince who needs her help.

I have had a mixed relationship with the author’s work in the past. Some of it I have enjoyed, others I haven’t. This was a really good book for me. I enjoyed how much agency the main character had. There were so many ways the author could have forced her to sit on the sidelines, but the story didn’t go that way. I can see where people would say it’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling.

I loved it up until the ending. It was unsatisfying

Not feeling this book rn... Not connecting with the characters and I'm really lukewarm about the romance...

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, I loved this one.

Tru is my favorite kind of MC, the kind that may internally doubt herself and worry, but outwardly is made of pure spite and challenges literal gods and dragons despite being a human.

I also love the fact that art is her weapon. She wins these battles by painting and being willing to jump at any moment.

Her and Elang’s romance was so sweet, I KNEW that Elang was hiding feelings from her the whole time. He fell first AND he fell harder. But I liked that they were friends and they KNEW each other and would give themselves up for the other.

In terms of side characters, not many stood out except for Shani, who was the MVP and Tru’s begrudging guardian and friend. Sometimes the mean water demon will actually care about you as a person.

If you like fated romance and wonderful fantastical worlds and magical paintbrushes, pick this one up!
