The pacing of this was a bit weird to me. Literal bloody murders would be spared a sentence like “he chopped his head off and silenced him for good,” meanwhile I’d know the details of the room the character was murdered in down to the fibres of the carpet. As a result everything gruesome and gory added to the story didn’t have the emotional impact I feel the author was aiming for

After seeing it pop up hundreds of times on adverts, I finally caved and got this book a while back and I'm glad I did! It reminded me a lot of the game Alice: Madness Returns (which I loved) but it was also very different, in a good way, and also very gruesome. Definitely need to pick up the rest of the series and see what happens next!
