This is easily the most entertaining non fiction book I've read in the last several years.
I think there are plenty of life lessons to be learned here as well, but having just finished my initial reading I must admit I was far too busy being totally spellbound by all the incredible stories of bravery, ingenuity and daring on the part of the CIA agents and officers who lived and worked under constant peril.
It's a tale of technology, disguises, and how spies befriended magicians all in service of pulling one over on the KGB on their home turf.
The book does a fair job of being up front about the CIA's glass ceiling and old boys network and how in at least a few instances these flaws led to the agency's undoing.
I enjoyed this tremendously and would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good spy story or even anyone who'd appreciate smart, dedicated people overcoming incredible odds to serve their country.

I sped through this real-life spy book in less than 24 hours. I found it fascinating to learn about the various techniques that agents had to develop to protect their assets and America's interests during the Cold War. They hired professional magicians to train them!

Obviously, a CIA biased book, but nevertheless quite engrossing. Completely worth the read.
Super interesting. I didn't mind the lack of narrative or chronology, it worked just fine for what this was. The authors tried to address misogyny but are still very sold to the patriotic capitalist patriarchy. This wasn't bad enough to make it hard to read but it was there enough to knock off a star from my rating.

While the various CIA spy tactics presented were interesting, this book didn't enthrall me like I had anticipated something on this topic would.
