good. i liked diego best. i liked reading about him. oh and fred was neat too. it was really interesting seeing the other side of it. i probably like this one more than most of the actual twilight books.

Well I liked this book. However, if you saw Eclipse and then read this book things happen different. Maybe more information but it does add a bit more to the vampires who are being made for the army to come and attack Bella. It was an extremely quick read and doesn't have chapters. It is just one big chapter.

auch!

This book didn’t particularly add anything to the Twilight universe or story. Maybe if I was a mega fan of either, this book would have meant more but this just felt like a short, unnecessary turn.

For the writing, I gave that a 7 out of 10. When Stephanie Meyer is not focused on a love triangle with angsty teenagers, she can write really well. In Eclipse, we’re told that all newborns are uncontrollable and only focus on their thirst, but we do see in this book that that is not the whole truth. Bree is only 3 months only at this point, and while she does thirst more than older vampires, she’s not completely overwhelmed. Additionally, I love that the lore of vampires burning up in the sun with the reality that, because they shine so brightly, it does look like they’re burning.

For the plot, I gave that a 7 out of 10. I actually found this book more interesting than the main Twilight story. I’m not sure if it’s because I hadn’t read this book before or not, but I found Bree’s story cool. She is not only having to learn how to be a vampire and what kind of vampire she wants to be but also to uncover the mystery that is their coven’s purpose. It’s constantly chaos but Riley mentions they need numbers to combat an enemy coming to take their territory. When she and Diego find themselves stuck in the sun and that they don’t actually burn up, she starts to question everything Riley has told them. As she does this, she also finds out about a larger coven that sets the rules of the vampire world.

For the characters, I gave that a 7 out of 10 as well. Bree was an interesting character. She is technically younger than the main Twilight cast as she is 15. However, she doesn’t really act 15 as she did have a pretty bad home life. I loved that she was smart enough to question why they were doing anything in the coven and what her purpose was. I also loved her budding relationship with Diego. I thought they were really cute.

For the world-building, I gave that a 7 out of 10. One of the things I loved is that we really got confirmation that the Volturi were involved in trying to eradicate the Cullens. In book 3, it’s heavily assumed and implied, but now we know for certain they were involved. One interesting tidbit we got in this book that I found funny is that Bree overhears clinking sounds and finds out it’s two vampires kissing. Up until this point, we really don’t get that description but now it’s clear what they sound like when they’re touching.

Overall, I gave this 3.5 stars. I wish this wasn’t a novella because it was very interesting.
