This is so much better than the actual series. Dark, gritty and completely unnecessary but still a great read.

This was definitely the best book in the Twilight series.

Bree Tanner was a compelling main character, and knowing how the story ends cast a dark sense of melancholy over the book that sets it apart from the rest of the series. It was interesting to see the dark underbelly of the vampire world, and how people who never wanted to be part of it dealt with the sudden change. How do you navigate the complexities of an undead existence when everyone around you is lying to you?

The cameos from the normal Twilight cast were interesting given the fact that they were the enemies in this situation. The writing was surprisingly sharp and delivered with a delicious brevity. I fell in love with Bree, Diego, and Fred. Even the Volturi were more frightening than they were in other books through Bree's eyes.

Good job, Meyer.

Still a better love story than twilight!

So this was my first time reading this short story and after reading Eclipse, anything was an improvement.

Now, when this book was first announced, I did not care at all. At this point, I was completely out of my Twilight phase and started to have more animosity towards the series.

Overall, this was a super harmless book. It didn't give us that much extra information, other than that the Volturi was super aware of Victoria's vampire army. Fun fact, the Eclipse movie totally reveals this so between the Eclipse book and movie, you get just about everything from this book.

The only thing this book adds is that Bree forms a connection with a couple of other guys. One gets away, one doesn't.

My only issue is that this book was super boring and I just didn't care. It really should've been an Alice novella.

Here is what I liked: it was different from all the books in the series because it’s from a “bad” vampire perspective. Or you know, a regular vampire’s perspective. Bree was interesting enough because we get to see her make her way from this blood lust driven mindset to actual thought. I thought that was pretty cool.

What I didn’t like: it was pretty much like every book after Twilight in the series, just mediocre. I really liked Twilight but I probably should have stopped after it because every book after it I kept kicking myself for reading the next installment.

What do I want from Stephenie Meyer? Another book like The Host. I loved it.

IMO an incredibly underrated book. Honestly the first book I’d read that was a true tragedy where you knew the ending. Changed the way I saw books then and still holds up now.

Fun and interesting. I like hearing the story from another point of view and am even more curious about the characters now.
