To be candid, an existential alternate history critique of technocapitalism is going to have an uphill climb with me as a reader. The novel’s historical sweep, structural precision, and seductive readability are all very impressive, but in the end it left me cold rather than chilled.

I think I need to stop reading speculative fiction. That's more of a personal thing on my end, but I really hate open ended stories that requires the reader to come up with the ending for the book and to fill in a lot of the blanks on their own. It works up to a point, but I did not let this effect my rating too much.

I did not really like any of the main characters in this book. I don't know if I was supposed to or if that was the point. The first half was so so so slow. The constant jump between timelines at time was jaring, and I almost wish the three parts of the book were set up in chronological order with Athena's being last. It was interesting enough to keep me reading, but oftentimes I would set it down and have to remind myself to come back to it.

I would have almost preferred the entire book from Athena's POV exclusively.

This will be one of those books I'll have to sit on for a bit...so my review might be edited or added to in the future. It was an okay book. I didn't hate it and I didn't love it.
