This book destroyed me but also empowered me to be brave enough to talk about the atrocities Africans endured during slavery. This should be required teaching because if we don't talk about it, we cannot move forward.

Give yourself time to sit with and digest this book even though it’s a short picture book. We can’t look away from the sins of our history and despite the difficult and uncomfortable truths this book discusses, it still ends with hope.
