Back to the saga of J. P. Beaumont. This time he's chaperoning his grandmother on her honeymoon aboard an Alaska-bound cruise ship. Of course, someone dies right away; or rather, she disappears off the ship, finally found to have been pushed overboard while bound & gagged. The question becomes "why" and Beau ends up being brought in to help the FBI keep tabs on events. Never having been a team player, he goes ahead & solves the whole thing. Good story, a bit far-fetched in parts.

I wondered, reading this book, how anything interesting could come out of this book. Has J.A. Jance run out of things for J.P. to do?

J.P. Beaumont is now retired, and his grandmother has talked him into joining her and Lars on an Alaska cruise. I thought how could this possibly be interesting, but Jance manages to wrap this up into a nice story. The ending was just a bit abrupt, but perhaps she is leaving some developments for the next book.

Haven't read a Jance book in years so when I got this one as a gift, I was looking forward to reading it. I found it a thoroughly enjoyable mystery - lots of interesting characters, fast paced plotting, even though it's clearly part of a series and there were some references to past stories, it wasn't disruptive to the current story.

I forgot that her stories are set in Seattle and even though this took place on an Alaskan cruise, there were still plenty of references to my home town. A couple of twists and some action at the end wrapped it up nicely. Recommended.
