A great mystery thriller. It also has supernatural elements which I love. I don't know if I would call this horror because I'm not easily scared, but it can be a little spooky if you're someone who IS easily frightened.

Overall, it was really fun and enjoyable. There wasn't really a character I disliked, but I can't say I have a favorite either. They all had something interesting to bring to the story. There's a lot of different stories happening and different characters that show up, so it might be a bit confusing to keep up with details since some characters are only mentioned once, but mysteries are just like that. If you aren't paying attention you might miss something.

I really loved the way Libba Bray writes atmosphere. She does a good job with descriptions and setting scenes. I'm a fan of history, so it's cool to be placed in a past era.

I plan on continuing with this series to see where everything goes and I absolutely recommend this story. It's solid and fun, mysterious and thrilling.

Not as good as the Gemma Doyle Series....so far. There is a lot of potential with the plot and as slow as it started off it got really good by the close of the book. I look forward to reading the other books in this new series as they come out after all I do consider myself a Libba Bray fan! The main character is a little hard to relate to (with my personality) but she's a solid character and the other characters add some spice as well. Good start for a series with a LOT to resolve!

This was a really good book. To me the plot was the most interesting part rather than the characters, because even though I really liked Henry, Memphis, and theta, the others weren’t huge standouts to me personally. The last 150 pages were extremely gripping and I found myself invested in the story throughout the whole book. Overall I’m really excited to see where this story goes in the next book.

Loved the concept, but it was such a big book which made it difficult to get through. I'll probably try to reread it because I was probably distracted most of the time while reading it the first time, but I have heard a lot of BookTubers rave about it, so I'll give it another go. Maybe I'll even finish the series, who knows.

I liked the book although it seemed to drag a little in some parts.

Well that was definitely terrifying! All that supernatural jazz was utterly freaky and this would most certainly make a great, atmospheric halloween read!

That said, I wasn’t entirely amazed with the entirety of this novel. The main issues I had were the characters and the romances: frankly, I wasn’t a fan of any of them. There was a scene towards the end that I found particularly frustrating on the romance field, and I just reaaallly didn’t like the main romance at the end.

I think my favourite parts were nearer the beginning, where the 1920s New York setting peaked, I loved when the mc first arrived at NY! But oh my this book got so creepy towards the end, it all gave me the heebie-jeebies (also I understood nothing of the penultimate chapter???) I think I’ll probably continue on with this series, hopefully I’ll connect more with the characters in the sequels, but, sadly, my expectations aren’t too high, given how this one finished (in the romance department, that is).
