By far my least favorite yet. She was so whiny and seemed so childish. He needed to get over fina way quicker.

danilo grated on my nerves, but i do love a good grovel. but truly this book was about anna being a simp for both santino and sofia. so i can't wait for her book; and samuel's, because something is definitely going on with him besides him missing his twin.

“In this world, we women get so few choices, so little freedom. We have to grasp happiness by the collar and drag it with us. We can’t hope for happiness to jump into our lap. Be selfish. You deserve it.”

Although Fragile Longing is included in neither the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles nor the Camorra Chronicles, the main characters had a number of cameos in some of them. The book was an anticipated one, especially if you read the story about Remo and Serafina. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it… The only thing that was appreciated by my fangirl of the series self was the friendship between Sofia and Anna (and also a glimpse of Anna’s love interest, Santino yay). Aside from that, Fragile Longing was everything I didn’t want in the book, and it’s really painful for me to even say it…

Usually, I write my reviews without major spoilers in order not to spoil the plot and thus, the overall reading experience. But this time around, I feel like I need to go into specifics so that my point is proven in the most proper and constructive way possible.

SPOILER!

Let’s start with Danilo who was a very inconsistent character. Hate-fucking blonde girls who at least somehow reminded him of Serafina after the engagement with Sofia up until the very wedding was an absolute disaster of scaring proportions. And then claiming that he actually didn’t like Fina even the slightest bit was confusing, to put it mildly (you need to get aroused in order to fuck but you do you, Danilo). Blaming everything on pride was disappointing and not at all believable or understandable...

Now, Sofia was also weird af. Her childish insecurities and unhealthy obsession to be like her sister freaked me out. And the way she all of a sudden changed her demeanor after her own stupid decision? Regretful that a character with so much potential was wasted so tastelessly…

“I’m going to fuck you hard against this tree. I’m not in the mood for fucking foreplay, so you better tell me now if your pussy is ready to take my cock.”

And let’s not forget about one of the most traumatizing sex scenes I’ve read in a long while. What kind of a person in her right mind would dress up like a pretty slut and wear a blonde wig alongside the favourite perfume of her older sister just to find out how her future husband treated his hookups? Well, Sofia was lucky that they didn’t have a bloody sheets tradition in Chicago Outfit…

Sigh… Now that I think about it, every single chapter in Fragile Longing felt like a raw draft put clumsily together with no structural idea of how things were supposed to turn out. The relationship between Danilo and Sofia was non-existent. I don’t fucking care that he was waiting for her to be comfortable around him after the wedding. Throwing in a number of filthy encounters like the one with strawberries didn’t solidify chemistry, which I also found absent for the most part. And the romance itself was lacking because two-thirds of the book was dedicated to discovering the pre-relationship period that was spent separately anyway.

In conclusion, I would say even the biggest fans can pass on this one. Bye!

Danilo has won over my heart!

I’m not going to lie, i was sooo nervous about reading this. My heart was already guarded for Sofia and her situation, but Danilo truly redeemed himself in my eyes. Without giving spoilers, i have will say at the beginning it is very rough and you need to have an opened mind about the mafia world.. man take, without having to explain or reason but he comes through as the man that Sofia needed. Don’t skip over the beautiful, steamy age gap novel.

Sofia and Danilo get their happily ever after in Fragile Longing! For those familiar with the Cora Mafia world, Danilo was supposed to marry Seraphina, Sofia's older sister, but since she was no longer available... he is offered Sofia instead. Sofia is thrilled. She's had a huge crush on Danilo and she sees this as her chance to be with him finally, but her fairy tale prince façade comes crashing down, because Danilo wants nothing to do with her.
For starters, they enter the contract when Sofia is 11 and Danila is 21. He gets to party and screw his way through society, and basically ignore the fact he has a fiancé, which gets worse when she's older.
I feel so bad for Sofia, because she feels as if she is trying to take her sister's place, with her parents and then Danilo. She wants to be loved so badly, but she never feels seen.
Danilo is given almost 7 years to pretty much do what he wants and act like a douche, and he takes full advantage. Sofia makes advances, especially as they get closer to their wedding and she's almost 18, but Danilo continues to hook up with blondes (Sofia is brunette but older sister was a blonde), and continues to break her heart.
Just before their nuptials, Danilo has a birthday party that was supposed to be like a one last big hurrah before the wedding and he screws up, and so begins his epic groveling. He really, really has to grovel to Sofia. And she deserves it. He didn't have to be such a jerk for so many years. He could've been sweet but still kept the rules and been polite.
Danilo had a lot of making up to do to earn Sofia's heart and forgiveness in my opinion, but I think he was redeemable and he earned his redemption. I love Sofia, and I eventually liked Danilo. The Chicago guys have a bit of a complex, those dang rules they all follow!! I also love seeing Anna and Santino, their book is sooo good!!

What a journey!

As if I needed more proof that I will love anything CR writes. I wanted to read Danilo and Sofia’s story since I was first introduced to their characters and I really did love it. Not to expose my loyalties but I definitely like the Chicago outfit the least but I didn’t mind letting my heart soften for them again. It was a little slow to start, but overall it all worked together go be a great book and I’m absolutely smitten.
