Reread Jan 16-22 2024 5/5 stars

Did I willingly choose to go through this pain again? Yes. Was is worth it? Absolutely. It wasn't easy to read but I will do it all over again anytime. I can't even count the number of times I cried or teared up while reading or the number of times I said that I hate this book for making me feel all these emotions and being so painful. Finishing the book, I felt totally empty. I can't believe it's over and we don't have more books to read about these characters that I love so much. I NEED MORE.

This reread was so hard because knowing every worst thing that happens in this book, I just couldn't read. I was dreading so many scenes even if they were inevitably going to happen. I had to pause multiple times to mentally prepare myself and it didn't help. I was still devastated by
SpoilerConnal's death, Aelin's torture scenes, her silent language with Fenrys, them fighting Cairn and getting out, the reunion with Rowan and the rest of the cadre, the Thirteen's sacrifice, Gavriel's death
and many other scenes. Thinking about these and writing about them make me want to cry.

I am so attached to these characters, especially Aelin. Seeing her and the others go through so much and still fight for a better world, you simply can't not respect and love them. Aelin is truly my favorite female character ever. I haven't read a book yet with a FMC that topped her.

On another note, this reread has been eye opening for me for how much I loved Lorcan. I remember enjoying his and Elide's storyline but not this much. It wasn't an important element of the series for me. But for some reason this time around, I looooved Lorcan. The way he goes soft just for Elide ahhhh. The "So Lorcan did." hit HARD since I was so invested in them. Also, I remember being a little bored by Aedion and Lysandra's storyline in Terrasen because Aedion is a bitch but also because none of my other favorite characters were there. However this time, it just stressed me out.
SpoilerI knew they were going to survive but just reading about them and the army going into war without Aelin, knowing that she wouldn't join them until the very end was so stressful to me.

All in all, I obviously loved this book and this series. 980 pages was not too long, so many things happened that there were no boring or unnecessary parts. It still is my favorite fantasy series and I can and will reread it over and over again.

To a better world. To whatever end.
I haven’t read a series that I have loved this much in at least 10 years. I’m filled with sadness that It’s over but the ride was worth it.
