Deep End by Ali Hazelwood is the story of Vandy, a Stanford diver, and Swedish Olympian, Lukas, who also swims for Stanford. Vandy is coming off a season-ending injury from last year that required surgery to repair the damage done to her shoulder.  She is struggling with a mental block when it comes to inward dives.  She overhears a teammate arguing with her boyfriend.  Pen and Lukas don’t find the same thing enjoyable in bed, and Vandy offers Pen some advice.  Pen then thinks that Vandy and Lukas should get together because they are both into kink.  While they tell no one that they have broken up, Pen pushes Vandy and Lukas together. This is a great spicy story by Ali Hazelwood.

The book had so much potential and just fell so short for me.
If I ever hear the name Pen again, it will be too soon.
I enjoyed Lukas, could not stand Vandy.

the only negative thing i have to say about this book is that it’s a shame i didn’t read ali hazelwood’s work sooner!
this book was sooo good, i practically inhaled it in nearly one sitting! it had the right amount of EVERYTHING - love, loss, growth, humor, spice etc. it’s a really easy read and i definitely recommend.

lastly, and most importantly —
please don’t listen to those claiming this book “isn’t kinky enough.” Deep End isn’t meant to be about nipple clamps and ball gags — it’s a thoughtful exploration of sexual discovery between two college athletes in their early 20s. automatically anticipating the extremes of BDSM is your fault for being narrow-minded, not the book’s shortcoming. what ali hazelwood does so well here is remind us that BDSM isn’t only about the intense, the taboo, or the over-the-top. it can be tender, playful, and deeply personal… and Deep End captures that beautifully.
