I read this book because it was $5 at Barnes and Noble for their book promotion gig at the cafe, and because the first few chapters intrigued me enough.
This story was somewhat alright in the sense that it really was a love letter to horror movies in parts, and in different ways, too. This also is definitely one of those books where (pretty much) Everybody Sucks, and the story weaves in different directions wildly to try and throw readers off of the twist villian, but all it did was make me annoyed and exasperated with this book for trying to be so much more than it was. The writing was mid, the characters were deeply unlikeable (but not in a very fun way), and topics like trauma, mental health, and numerous crimes are treated passingly at best and borderline mocked at worst. I wouldn’t say I regret reading this but this was not very good and I’ll definitely be unhauling it.

The Mary Shelly Club was a delightful read!
The story was perfectly paced and wonderfully written.

Creepy, twisty, and an intriguing mystery along the way.
