I was grinning listening to this for the first few introductory chapters at all of the millennial nuances and references and I really did love about 70% of this and felt absolutely seen and giddy at weird ass things like SOHCAHTOA, Cuppy and Meredith Blake, the Spice Girls, the horrors of choosing an AIM screen name, etc. but if I heard the word “zeitgeist” one more time….seriously, it could have been a drinking game and I wish an editor had caught that and thrown some synonyms in. And then I hate saying this, because it took real bravery and rawness to include her fertility journey and struggles in this book, but it was almost jarring how it was thrown in out of nowhere. It didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the theme of the book and just caught me off guard and was of a different severity, genre etc. I really appreciated the soapbox pitch for a woman’s right to choose and feminism and how parenting looks different for all people or may not be a desire for all, but I almost wish it was a separate book itself that tackled that issue separately and gave it its own spotlight and theme. Including it here just threw me for a loop and took me out of the theme that had originally seemed constant.

She needed an editor. The stories rambled and got repetitive and while I think there is some deeper analysis to be done of what the culture of our youth did to us as adults this wasn't really a successful exploration.
