If someone asks for my star sign in the next 5 to 7 business days, I might swing on principle. 

What could have been a quirky romance with a fun plot and loveable side characters was derailed by a main character so intolerable that I found myself actively rooting against her. I think this book genuinely made me a more hateful person. 

The premise was fun though.

Started off strong with some laugh aloud moments and quirky seaside setting with beautifully articulated atmosphere. Unfortunately, the plot slogged along too slowly after the first quarter, started to feel more Hallmark-esque than the suggested Schitt’s Creek book cover blurb, and the heroine’s immaturity grated for a character in their 30s. This definitely felt more YA (which may be what you’re looking for!) or New Adult vs adult rom-com.

With that signature Lizzy Dent feelgood glow, The Setup is witty, warm and wickedly funny. With everything larger than life, this story is packed full of over-the-top characters and brimming with charm.
