It was escapism at high level: an original rom-com mixing fun, astrology, and romance.
I had fun, rooted for the well written characters, and enjoyed the plot.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I am so happy I’m in my happy books era because I LOVED this book!! I can totally see why this book does not work for some people as Mara’s actions were often so frustrating and painful to read. I went into this book expecting an over-the top, cheesy romance but what I got was so much more. This book had beautiful conversations about family, friendship, self-acceptance and how to take hold of your life. Ash was such a cutie, the book ended just how I wanted it to, and Mara really pulled it together throughout the novel. 5 very happy stars!

I am do picky about contemporary romance, but this one got me. I see myself in Mara so much it’s scary and it made it that much more enjoyable to read. Ash is an amazing love interest and I could read about the two of them over and over again.
To think I almost didn’t buy this book is honestly a scary thought.
I really loved the side characters as well. Samira and Lynn and Ryan and even Jackie made me want to continue this story and I wish it was even just a little longer.
This was a great read for the beginning of a new year and will now be a book I recommend to anyone who will listen.
Crying score: Teary-eyed for Mara again and again.

An enjoyable romance read. Mara is somewhat anxious and neurotic, and I did get frustrated with her a few times as I just couldn't relate to her. She needs therapy stat.
I did however enjoy her character development as the story went on and that she opened up more and formed friendships with her colleagues. The tension built throughout with Ash her flatmate was really well done, and you wanted to scream at Mara right at the end. Any character who can evoke such strong emotions in you is a good thing in my books.
I guess I could somewhat see where this was going, but I didn't mind that!

Pure joy.
That's what you get from one of Lizzy's stories.
I really enjoyed The Summer Job so when I was given access to her latest novel, I knew I was in for a treat.
The Setup follows our protagonist Mara as she embarks on a few changes in her life.
Driven by her horoscopes and the idea of fate, she is thrown of course when a certain flat mate of hers sends her into a spin.
Question is, will Mara follow her head or her heart?
Brilliant from start to finish.
This is a story made for easy reading and leaving you with a smile on your face.
A quirky cast of characters with conversations that I guarantee will have you laughing, The Setup was just the thing that I didn't even know I needed.
Bursting to the seems with love and humour, I was quite literally entertained from start to finish.
I predict this to be one of the books to read this summer!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! This book is ok, I enjoyed parts of it but it wasn’t anything special. It did start to lose me towards the end. Overall, it’s an easy read that will definitely appeal to many people, but for me it fell a bit flat and just felt a bit average.
Lizzy Dent took me on a cute whirlwind with The Summer Job last year and The Setup was so fun too. This book had me giggling with the main character, Mara’s antics right off the bat when she impersonates a fortune teller to an unsuspecting customer that she quickly becomes infatuated with. She then becomes engrossed in improving herself in time to meet this mystery man, while also discovering her workplace was in jeopardy in ceasing to exist.
I appreciated Mara’s character growth, but I have to say, I wasn’t a fan of hers. I didn’t like how she treated her over worrying parents and experienced frustration with her at times. BUT the secondary characters were so quirky and fun that it makes up for it all. I especially loved how Mara’s co-workers ban together and use their strengths in the common goal of saving their community’s leisure facility.
Overall, this was a fun story and a great summer book to read.
Thank you G.P. Putnam’s and Sons for the gifted copy. Thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
