3.5 stars! Hard to keep focus on it. But had a great message

A very solid 3 stars! The beginning had me worried because I didn’t know where it was going, but it turned around. Another nice “read it by the pool” sort of summery book. Will look forward to her next novel.

This was a fun read, although it did frustrate me a little at first - I mean seriously, how many of us are that lucky with finding hot men. And Mara started off as so selfish and spoilt, but to give credit, she did grow on me.
I enjoyed this for the most part and will be recommending.

Mara goes abroad on a weekend trip that was supposed to be with her best friend. With little notice, her friend cancels and Mara reluctantly goes alone. After a severe lack of adventure, Mara has her palm read and her romantic destiny is on the immediate horizon if she fixes... something.
Call me crazy, I don't care. This book is a different reading experience I wasn't initially on board with. Mara comes off as a little weird, a little stalkery, and a lot lonely. I'm not huge into astrology while Mara lives and breathes it, so relating to her kind of quirky wasn't something I could imagine. However, Mara hits this point in her life shake-up that put a smile on my face that didn't want to let go. Her character growth is one of my new favorites. Add to that one of the sweetest cinnamon roll love interests ever, and I was a goner.
After The Summer Job and now The Setup, Lizzy Dent will hold a place on by auto-read author shelf. I really enjoy the niche she has carved out with these two publications.
Thank you to Putnam and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

I did not like this, at all. Lol it took a lot for me to finish it, and honestly if I hadn’t listened to it on audio, I probably wouldn’t have been able to. Mara was so annoying and insanely immature. I just couldn’t with her. Only giving it two stars instead of one because I liked Ash.

Lizzy Dent's "The Set Up" was an absolutely charming novel about starting over and self-discovery.

Mara (Sagittarius) always envisioned herself working in film, writing, and working on the kinds of movies that shaped her youth. But after a disastrous final in film school derails her career aspirations and crushes her self-confidence, Mara moves from London to the quaint seaside town of Broadgate.

Certain that fate has her best interests in mind, Mara visits a fortune teller in Budapest and through a comedy of errors, Mara unexpectedly meets a handsome cellist, Josef, who she believes she's destined to fall in love with. When he mistakes her for the fortune teller and asks for a reading, she impulsively tells him that he's destined to fall in love with a young woman named Mara in the English seaside town of Broadgate at the end of summer.

Determined to get her life in order before she meets her perfect match later in the summer, Mara heads home to Broadgate with a plan worthy of a makeover montage in every romantic comedy she's ever seen. With "Project Mara" underway, Mara finally finds herself opening up to a new life and the possibility of love after so long.

Perfect for readers who love a little depth with their romance, it's hard not to fall in love with Broadgate and it's charming inhabitants. The Set Up will be a perfect book to add to your summer reading list - and fans of Beth O'Leary, Sophie Cousens and Lia Louis are sure to love this quirky romance.

DNF. This review is for me so I don’t accidentally pick this up again.
When my library loans lapsed after a month I wasn’t compelled to renew.
Characters are unlikable and self-involved. Dialogue doesn’t flow.
