The 2 stars are for Ash. Mara was insufferable which is a shame because she’s the main character and narrator. She also literally stalked someone across Europe and comes back like “am I creepy?” Like yes. She calls everything “fate” but she’s really just picking and choosing her future. I also couldn’t understand why she was so mean to her family - and ultimately if Charlie (bff) hadn’t been in the book, it wouldn’t have changed anything.

continuing the trend of kinda mid Lizzy Dent books! I mean, I keep reading them for some reason but whatever. This featured the most delusional main character yet and her reliance on horoscopes almost led me to DNF.
The Setup has a plot akin to all the best makeover movies — low key this would probably be a decent movie. Nothing revolutionary, but still.

Fab premise for a rom-com, so clever and intriguing, a great way to while away a few hours in the sun. Loved Mara, and the cast of quirky Broadgate, all of which leapt of the page in a riot of fun. Plus there were so many touches I identified with – so great to see the topic of going back to uni at a more mature age covered (yep, that would be me), travels in Vienna (though personally I’m more of a Café Central fan) and not really knowing what to do with your life despite allegedly being a grown-up (yep, me again!). Such a fun read!

Interesting premise. The astrology was way overdone, and that has got to be the most unbearable FMC I’ve ever read. I could not relate to any part of her personality or behavior.

I would probably say 3.5. The reliance on astrology was a lot for me to handle. But I could really understand feeling so unsure of yourself and your decisions.

I am not even going to give this book 3 stars for finishing! It was the MOST FRUSTRATING book I have read this month. I thought that the other Lizzy Dent book that I read was annoying, but I am realizing that this is just her writing style. All of her female main characters are spoiled, entitled and extremely self-centered. They have relatively good lives and will go through one event that shapes the rest of the book with them obsessing over it. The issue with this is there is no growth throughout the book because the character is so stuck on this one thing that is completely irrational and there is no other focus on the book and they are shit people to everyone around them because of it. They brush off their friends and screw over the love interest in their own pursuit after bitching through 90% of the book about how someone else screwed them over. I had one more Lizzy Dent book that I was going to read, but at this point I will be taking it off my TBR.
