Troppo "Desperate Housewives"
avrei voluto più "Dexter" 😂
I had a good time with this one, granted it was not exactly what I was expecting - but was also exactly that? I enjoyed my time with it though! Was horror with a bit more “fun” to it, but do go in with open expectations and maybe some understanding of how gaslighting worked in the early 90s.

Talk about a role coaster of a book! I've never read a Grady Hendrix novel so I was in for a shock as far as what to expect. This book is the slow burn of horror novels, with a layering of suspense, stress, horror and thrill that keeps you reading and unable to put the book down. From the overall discomfort you get as the main character feeling like your sanity is challenged, to the absolute horror of the scary plot scenes, this book is a great thriller/suspense read. And as an extra bonus, at the end there are book club discussion questions, making it a great pick for that, and suggested books to read a if you're part of the southern book club. The book is based in the early 90s, so all the books suggested are classic but that is so cool! Overall I give this book a 11/10 for creep factor, 10/10 for keeping the reader immersed and a 2/10 for bedtime reading material. So great book!

Grady Hendrix captures suburban life so vividly that it’s impossible not to feel like you’re walking the same dusk-drenched streets as his characters. That’s really the heart of what I loved most about this book, I felt like I was part of the Mount Pleasant community, which made the stakes feel personal, immediate, and terrifying.
Hendrix’s take on the vampire mythos is fresh and inventive, breathing new life into a well-worn genre. The tension builds steadily throughout, keeping the reader on edge from start to finish. But what lingers most is the horror rooted in the everyday: the quiet isolation experienced by suburban moms, the subtle gaslighting, the fear of not being believed. It’s this emotional undercurrent that makes the story truly terrifying.
One of Hendrix’s greatest strengths is how he shows that in a world where vampires exist, the real danger might still come from the people closest to us, the ones we trust, the ones we sleep beside. The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires is equal parts chilling, heartfelt, and disturbingly real.
