I don’t think I’m capable of not loving a book by Ali Hazelwood! I read this in a day, I just couldn’t put it down!! I LOOOOVEEEE Lukas & Scarlett! They are just so perfect for each other!
And despite the drama with Pen getting in their way, they found a way to rise above it! Like Pen was sus, & I never trusted the way she didn’t want to tell anyone they broke up, like she had a right to change her mind & hold on to him even though she broke up with him. But Scarlett & Lukas didn’t let that get in their way!
& They are just meant to be!!

I would have preferred more science content but I understand that Diving and Swimming were the main focus. I thought the characters were fine but the FMC did feel like a bit of a combination of the FMC's from her previous books. I was happy that the 'antagonist' was not some evil mastermind but I still found the third act a bit eye roll worthing from all the miscommunication. Be aware that they basically spend the entire book in a situationship while the entire school thinks he is dating her best friend (yikes). Overall it was fine but this was not my favourite Ali book.

Honestly, at this point, Ali Hazelwood could mash the keys of her computer in a Word Doc, publish it and I would still devour it.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters in this one seemed more relatable than in some of her other adult books.

Yes, Lukas was written to be stiff and seemed a bit more reclusive and socially awkward, but he really wasn’t. And as much as she lamented throughout the story that she was an outcast, Scarlett just seemed like a girl with a troubled past and confidence issues.

I *saw* myself in Scarlett and the bond that grew between her and Lukas.

Seriously, I ate this book up in 2 days (would have been 1 if it wasn’t for pesky things like a job, children, responsibilities… ya know, that pesky life stuff!) and now I’m sad it’s done.

The only part that kind of let me down was the epilogue. It was written from Lukas’ POV but it was just snippets of time stitched together and kind of clunky - I really wanted more from it!

I really enjoyed this latest Ali Hazelwood book so much, and the narration was EXCELLENT! Definitely check warnings for Shmexy stuff though. I do wish that the excerpt on the back of the book didn’t use “ace swimmer” as a descriptor because I thought Lukas was going to be asexual (especially since many of Hazelwood’s other books involve ace characters), but it just meant star swimmer or their best swimmer. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book! The characters were funny and relatable, the spice was good, and HEA guaranteed!
(Would have been quicker if our girl Scarlet admitted her feelings, but she had some shit to work through lol).
