This book, OMG. THIS BOOK!!! Do not read reviews. Buy Boyfriend Bargain NOW!!! Ilsa Madden-Mills latest has completely taken over as my favorite book she’s written, and I can not stress enough how much you need to read this book.
All it would take is one indication from her, a crook of her finger, a longing in her eye that she wants me, goddamn just anything and I would slay anyone in my path to get to her. But she doesn’t give it to me.

She has a wall around her, one I want to take a sledgehammer to.

Ilsa Madden-Mills has long been a favorite author of mine and I never let a release pass me up that I don’t participate in as a blogger. It’s the least I can do as a die-hard fan of the author. But she’s not one that you will ever worry about who has readers padding reviews. If you’ve read anything she’s written, you already know this. But if you’ve yet to read a book by Ilsa—a serious travesty if you are a romance junkie and you should totally be ashamed!—Boyfriend Bargain is one of the best books you’ll read this month… and for me, it’s definitely a favorite read of the year so far. Since I average 7 to 10 books a week between ARCs and Beta Reading, I don’t say that lightly. With all honesty, I have never read a book by Ilsa Madden-Mills that I would rate as less than 5 stars, and I have read them all 😉
The thing is, you can’t fix a guy with guilt so deep it cuts like a knife.

No matter what I do to make myself better, there’s a flaw so cavernous, so deep in the recesses of my mind that nothing will ever be able to repair it.

Boyfriend Bargain is a dual POV, sports/fake romance unlike any other. This book is so much more than I expected. It's exceptionally entertaining and sucked me in from the get-go. I was so entirely entranced in the story that I read it in one sitting and it’s not a small book… but for real, no food, no breaks… one sitting! While I expect Ilsa to write seXXXy romance, Zack was an inferno for reals and his dirty talking got me seriously hot and bothered! Full Disclosure: do not read this book without your spouse on standby or your batteries charged ladies! 😉 A cold shower is not going to cut it!!!!!!! And while I never thought Dirty English would lose its rank as my favorite Ilsa book, Boyfriend Bargain totally did for me. This romance has it all: a well-developed and executed plot, the sweet and swoon-worthy moments I crave, enough angst to make your heart squeeze, some seriously witty banter, a sexy, dirty talking, broken hero! All the makings for a great read right?! Both characters were so broken, in their own ways and you can’t help but ache for them and fall helplessly into a quest for their HEA! Zack’s secrets and the wall surrounding Sugar steered an angst and eventual breakup which left me completely broken and that’s no joke. I can’t imagine someone not loving them the way I did.
His response is instant, an accelerant to a flame, his lips taking control, his tongue an invader as we go nuclear in a millisecond.

Zack Morgan is an inferno that will burn me up.

So, I will say it again, BUY. BOYFRIEND. BARGAIN. NOW!!! Stop reading reviews and get to One-Clicking… I promise you won’t be disappointed with this book!!!! I couldn’t give this book less than five-stars on any scale… Hell, I would give it more if it was remotely possible.

Quotes:
He’s hot as hell and it slams into you when you look at him, like a great wind in a hurricane.

He’s the king of the ice, and I’m just… no one. I come from nothing. I have nothing, literally.

if people discover I have real issues with anxiety, I’m done in the NHL, all my dreams destroyed.

He’s like dynamite, and I never know what’s going to set him off.
…There’s an earthy, dominant warrior quality to him, one that calls to the softness in me.

I just thought if there were any truth to him wanting me for me, he would have tried harder to convince me. He let me go, and I guess that tells me everything.

Zack and Sugar. Hockey god, BMOC and NHL hopeful. Love child who has never been acknowledged by her sperm donor. He wants a "girlfriend" to deter the hordes of women who want him. She wants to go to Vanderbilt Law so that she can prove herself to a family who didn't want her, but she needs Z's help to impress the Dean of Admissions.

He also forgot to mention that she looks like Willow, his high school girlfriend, who died while pregnant with his baby.

Zack's anxiety and panic attacks. The letters. Reese's jealousy and grief. Vanessa's attempts to take Zack for herself.

tl;dr: nothing can be fixed until you open yourself up to love. you have to let them in.

HEA

Lots of back and forth.

I loved it so much!! Feelsss
Z is such a loving and sexy guy!! Loved him.

An emotional roller coaster! I absolutely loved Sugar, the heroine in this book and her perseverance, independent nature and drive. She was a breath of fresh air for a romance novel! Her counterpart, "Z" was book boyfriend material from the get go! He was broken, grieving and hiding it all while in the spotlight. No one truly knew his pain until Sugar came along and they made a mutually beneficial arrangement.

We all know how "fake" relationships pan out in these types of books so I won't get into how perfectly it ended but I will say that I loved the slow progression of their feelings and trust in each other. I adored how Zack treated Sugar, despite the secrets he kept.

This was absolutely one of the best sports romance reads this year! Just enough hockey to keep me interested but it was so much more than that! The topic of mental illness was written so well by the author and I thought she articulated his struggles realistically and honestly. A solid and captivating read by Ilsa Madden-Mills!

raw and real

I loved this book. So much. I love this author even more. She has a way of creating characters with depth and real-life issues that you don’t find in every romance novel. Z and Sugar are so chaotic and wonderful.

Their sexual tension had me reading faster than I ever have, and I absolutely loved their chemistry. The blurb may not seem like your type, and to be honest I didn’t think it was kind, but I’m so glad I decided to read anyway!

This was pretty good but repetitive as FUCK. Thank god for Stephen Dexter in the audiobook.

Good read

Big fan of these books. Enjoyed the characters dealing with their issues, making mistakes and finding that happy ever after.

I am not going to lie...this book is kinda boring. It took me a while to get through it because I just kept losing interest. I enjoyed what the author was going for at first, the random girl pretends to date the popular hockey player, both doing this for their respective reasons. Sadly, that plot line fizzled very quickly.

I felt that a lot of the book was build up to a big climax only for it to be anti climactic. It was an okay book. Would a reread the book? Maybe. Would I recommend it? Only if you can get this book for free. I would not tell someone to purchase the book. If you are truly interested, see if your library has it or kindle or somewhere else for free.

I have been putting off reading Dear Ava for some reason and after reading this I am even more hesitant. I don't know, maybe I just don't like the authors writing or maybe it is this story in general. I think I need to give this author another chance.

Lastly, I went to see if Eric's story was available and sadly it never came out. It was supposed to come out in 2019 or early 2020 but it never did. I am completely disappointed. All and all, this book was a disappointment.

This book was just alright for me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Just a quick easy, mostly entertaining read.

The plot was decent. I appreciated a book that had a MMC that was a star hockey player, but suffered from anxiety and was actively working through it and also came forward and was public about it. Mental health has enough of a stigma but even more so for men, and men in sports. So I really appreciated that part of the story.

The main characters were just kinda meh to me. I didn't feel overly attached to them, and their connection was pretty instant. This book was angsty, but the spice came instantly and was pretty hot and heavy throughout.
