This was a decent quick read. Someone going from rookie cop to homicide detective in three years seems a little unrealistic. One of the officers says a lot of sexist comments and crappy comments about lesbians (and the person he’s referring to isn’t even one), but insists he’s a good guy (hint: if you have to keep telling everyone that, you’re not one).
Avery is a bit of a mess and is selfish - a big one being having a kid to fix her relationship in her past. It also really irked me that she threw away all of her old (expensive!) clothes. She could’ve easily donated them to a women’s shelter, an organization that helps people get jobs, or even a thrift store, instead of just trashing them all.
That being said, it was nice to knock out a book in a day. I have the second in the series so I’ll be reading that next.
A note on my content warnings: a lot of the minor ones are mentioned in passing or a sentence or two, but I obv still wanted to include them.
