A good psychological thriller. Twisty and dark. The narrator was suitably dramatic.
Okay I was super excited to read this and I can’t believe that it took longer for me to read than I anticipated. At first, the book captivated my attention just by being able to relate to the main character Theo. I took out so many quotes from this book that truly reveals what most people who are familiar with psychological terminology. The relationship between patient and therapist is one that many therapist who go into psychotherapy try to avoid: getting too personal and attached to the patient they’re working with. To say the least, Theo from the start was enamored with Alicia and all the trauma she had endured. Following Theo as he uncovered her motives behind why she killed her husband, we get to know each of the character and what kind relationships they had with her. And it was all going so well and as a reader, I was sure I was gonna figure out that maybe it wasn’t Alicia. Here’s why I gave it 3 starts instead of 5 or 4: lazy writing or least lack of subtle detail. The ending yes was very much the least I suspected would happen but at the same time I couldn’t connect why the writer decided to go in that direction. The only thing I could validate was that Theo was in fact obsessed with getting her to talk and maybe that’s why we find that it’s him that caused it. Regardless, it was very anticlimactic and I remember speaking to myself out loud wondering why the writer went that direction. Besides the ending, the beginning was worth the read and I got many quotes that I could relate to.
this was such a good thriller! the plot twist was astonishing. would recommend to anyone tbh
