I was honestly lost a majority of the time. I had to reread the book description multiple times to remind myself what exactly was going on. Toward the middle of the book, it became more clear and I started enjoying myself more. Luckily I listened to this on audio so I didn’t give up around the 25% mark like I normally would if I was so lost.

The premise is interesting, the story was nice but I just got a bit bored and dizzy with all the characters. I think this is one of those weird random books you find at a second-hand bookstore; like it's not bad, it's just kind of weird. Honestly the thing that's the most interesting about it isn't the main plot, but rather the subplots.

REVIEW
I loved this book! I can’t really explain to you why I loved it so much, what made it a 5-star read for me, but I guess like in most 5-star reads, it’s something that comes from your heart more than it does from your brain. Trying to put some thoughts into words, I thought this book was so interesting and peculiar. It’s one of those books where the title tells you the end of the book (in this case, where it pretty much tells you most of the plot), and yet you’re still super invested in it. The characterization of the Columbian little town felt so real in a way I could almost see this happening in my little Portuguese town. It was almost funny, it was witty, it was so good! A perfect short read!

No one writes like Gabriel García Marquez. It's so easy to get swept away in his beautiful prose. This novella balances the mystery, magical realism, and magnetic characters so indicative of his longer works. So, if you're looking for an entry point into his work, Chronicle may be a good starting place before diving into his longer novels.
