Just finished reading this and wow, I don't even know how to describe my feelings. Grisly with generous sprinkling of dark humor, and the people of the town is undeniably a bunch of doofus.

But I'm still confused on how Bayardo San Roman knew that Angela Vicario wasn't a virgin, did she tell him or did he just know when they both were consummating the marriage??? I mean, how do you even know if someone isn't even a virgin? I know about the concept of hymen and stuff, but I thought that there's no valid physical signs of virginity??

I was honestly lost a majority of the time. I had to reread the book description multiple times to remind myself what exactly was going on. Toward the middle of the book, it became more clear and I started enjoying myself more. Luckily I listened to this on audio so I didn’t give up around the 25% mark like I normally would if I was so lost.

This book is such a wild ride. I found it hard to relate to the characters as I didn't find any of them massively likeable (except maybe Ángela), and I found it especially hard to sympathize at all with

Santiago

. That may have been the point however, in which case it is extremely clever to switch around the norm of feeling bad for the victim of the murder, as we discover that he is not a good person.

Fine read. It was a little difficult to get into but the second half of the book was actually quite gripping. I was a bit confused the whole way through and did actually feel that I was almost skimming it a lot of the time. Overall, it was fine.

The drama of this book had entertaining moments and some of the lines are really well written. The best thing about this book is it gives you a really strong sense of setting. Good at painting a picture but I just thought it was alright. Not in love with it.
