beautifully written novella that tells a story about a young girl living her youth. he carved the characters out so well and created a main character who is relatable because of how raw and naive she is.

The writing is highly descriptive and poetic. you can imagine exactly where and how things are.

A short but good read.

A book I wished I'd written myself. With novellas, each phrase must be carefully crafted and indispensable and that is absolutely the case here.

It's such a simple story of young love gone wrong yet so poignant. The characters are painted in such delicate strokes, they are easily relatable even if you don't belong to the same era, country or race.

Not everyone will love the style or the storyline, and of course, I may prove myself wrong if/when I reread this, but at the time I read it, I thought it was perfect. It's a testament to Capote's writing future that his debut novel was crafted so well.

*did not finish

idk something about using the n word multiple times in a paragraph doesn't do it for me.

30 pages in and i could care less about the protagonist and whatever continues to happen in this novel.

no thanks

Gritty and raw. You can feel throughout that this was a writer experimenting and coming into his own. There were sections that I had to read multiple times to understand and yet others flowed seamlessly. I think that what I truly liked about the book was that it was just as beautiful as it was messy.
