“I love you,” he repeated, shaking her again. “I have for years. And he hurt you and made me watch because he’s always known how I felt, too. But if I asked you to pick, you’d choose Arobynn, and I. Can’t. Take. It.”
“You’re a damned idiot,” she breathed. “You’re a moron and an ass and a damned idiot.” He looked like she had hit him. But she went on, and grasped both sides of his face, “Because I’d pick you.”
And then she kissed him.

He brushed his lips against hers. “I love you,” he breathed against her mouth. “And from today onward, I want to never be separated from you. Wherever you go, I go. Even if that means going to Hell itself, wherever you are, that’s where I want to be. Forever.”

sam pls

This novella is a lot darker in the end. I'm hoping Sam and Celaena's relationship goes on throughout the series. I'm hoping they are a good duo. However, I think that might be wishful thinking, I don't know. Man, I hope he doesn't die or end up betraying her.

Celaena is only seventeen, so I can't really hold it against her that she has been so annoying and arrogant about her class, wealth, and items. But the ending leaves me with hope that this part of her personality will change and become better from here on out.

“In the silence of her bedroom, she swore an oath to the moonlight that if Sam were hurt, no force in the world would hold her back from slaughtering everyone responsible.”
― Sarah J. Maas, The Assassin and the Underworld

I loved getting to see Celaena's relationship with Sam develop. I feel like we have the necessary backstory to fully understand Sam's impact on Celaena and her internal dialogue in Throne of Glass. I can't wait to see where this goes. I'm really sad that he doesn't make it into ToG. I know I said I just want him to be gone so she can continue with Chaol, but... I'm growing to really love Sam...

Arobynn is horrible in this novella! I thought he was going to be a likable character in the beginning, but then he turns out to be awful. I hope Celaena takes her revenge for his actions later in the series.

These novellas fit together so perfectly. I feel like this should have just been presented as one book, rather than five novellas that make up the book. Each novella seems to incorporate events from other novellas perfectly.

I honestly don't know how I feel about these novellas. For 50% of each story so far I was bored with nothing to invest in. This one was no different. The fact that Celaena and Sam are willing to risk their lives for a noble cause is what saves the characters for me. The action is well written.

Arobynn is a piece of shit. I really hate that Sam doubts himself and wants to prove that he's one of the best assassins around. Ofc Celaena made sure he felt that way right from the beginning.

I didn’t enjoy the understandably immature behavior of the main character in this one. The problem fixed itself fast but left a sour taste in my mouth.
