Daphne

This wasn’t scary or unsettling or anything of sorts but still… the descriptions of anxiety was on point! I just think it would’ve made much more sense if the metaphor was about depression? Because the real topic no one talks about until it’s too late is not panic attack but suicide. So the whole „don’t talk about Daphne or she’ll come and get you” didn’t make much sense because first, yes, it’s impossible not to think about sth you’re told not to think, and second, the very point of recovery and therapy is that you TALK. But still, the descriptions of anxiety were great. The rest of the book? No to so much. Like, okay, there were a few creepy descriptions of Daphne and what she does but the majority of her was… just… laughable. Like, the whole idea of her being so tall and long wasn’t scary but funny to me. But okay. I was okay with it for the most part because I really loved the writing style in the book so the lack sense of dread or suspense didn’t really bother me. Until the second half, that is. Because then it just became repetitive and boring. Yes, I know, you’re not suppose to think about Daphne, I get it. Yes, I know, you love basketball. Yes, I know, YOUR WHOLE FUCKING PERSONALITY CONSISTS OF BASKETBALL AND ANXIETY. Duh. You know that people with mental health issues are more than their mental health issues, right? Well, it doesn’t show here. I finished this book yesterday and already cannot remember anyone in this book except the protagonist. So like what was the point of all of these killings and the detective pov? Like the rest of the plot and the rest of the characters were so irrelevant??? So yeah, it was a 5 star book that turned out to be a 3 star book in the end really, but I’m willinng to bumped it up 4 stars because the writing style was gorgeous (except the descriptions of gore and creepy moments that were laughable and the cringy dialogue but the rest was really immaculate, like the psychological aspects and descriptions and everything).
