This book has both made me thankful for the time that I live in, and angry that things have not changed as much as they should have since this was written. It has given me a greater urgency to live life how I want to, to the fullest, and as necessary, the loudest.

So much clarity filling these pages

I can't believe I waited this long to read this incredibly thoughtful, moving essay. This essay is really powerful and, perhaps sadly, remains relevant. Her insights regarding the link between material freedom and the ability to create, as well as on the importance of a history of creative voices are thoughtful and provocative. I was most moved though, by her discussion of the role that societal displeasure plays in thwarting the creative process. Brilliant.
