A young adult book. I couldn't put it down. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars.
REREAD! :D
If you’ve seen the movie The Truman Show, and have read The Hunger Games, this book would be a nice combination of both. The story revolves around Thomas, a teenage boy who has no memory of anything except his name. He was taken away from his family when he was very young to be part of an experiment. His memory was wiped away just before he was thrown in place called Glade wherein he and the other boys try to solve the Maze surrounding it to escape the place and go back to wherever they came from.
It is another dystopian book like The Hunger Games in which people try to manipulate these teenagers to “test” their capabilities and look for the best. But in the midst of finding the solution to the maze, Thomas learned something that might jeopardize his relationship with the other boys in the Glade. He can solve the Maze. He is destined to know the solution. He must face the demons lurking in the Maze and be brave enough to do what he must. And just when they finally escaped, something bigger slapped them in the face as the Creators told them the truth.
If you read this book, you will realize how selfish people can be when the whole human race is in danger. We’ll see how humanity falters in desperate time. We would question whether the thing we do are wrong or right. Is it okay to use other people and make their life miserable, take their youth, just to save the other human beings? Up to what extent are they willing to test these kids just to satisfy their little experiments? Is it really for the greater good or is it just a selfish act made so they can live longer than others?

This book was OVERWHELMINGLY recommended to me because of my love for Hunger Games by a teacher who loves YA books. So I eagerly downloaded The Maze Runner excitedly, hoping for an even better adventure. I was really disappointed.
The book starts off really interesting. Thomas wakes up the only thing he can remember is his first name and his memory is blank. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade. What was so frustrating was that Thomas would ask questions (as would ANYONE who was in this situation) and they would never answer.
So its a mystery...but its not a good read! I enjoy books that can also stand on its own...this one you have to read more books to see what is going on. I hate this concept. You can read Hunger Games and be satisfied and not have to read Catching Fire. You WANT to because its so good and you want to see whats going to happen next with Katniss.
I didn't care about why Thomas was there or his next chapter.

I really enjoyed this book! I haven't read an action-packed book in a while, so it was nice to read. I thought that the whole scenario was really interesting and want to know more about the world, so I will definitely read the next book at some time.
It got 3 stars as opposed to 2 because I wanted to find out what happens. Tbh I wouldn't ever reread it because other than (kind of) the plot I didn't really like the characters or anything. Not even sure if I'll read the series beyond this, but I was curious af about what the maze was all about - more so than I should have been. Very plot-driven but not very character driven. Thomas is kind of annoying to me because he's really perfect and kind of treats Chuck like crap a lot.
I picked this up on a whim, inspired by the fact that it'd gotten a movie made of it, and that I'd heard at least a few people say some decent things about it. With perfectly decent writing and a somewhat captivating idea, this proved to be a perfectly enjoyable book that was fun, silly, and amusing. I really can't say much more than I had a perfectly fine time reading it. It was not excellent, astounding, or earth shattering in any way. It also was not nearly as bad as many of the other reviews I've seen make it out to be. Perfectly adequate, worth the time I spent reading it.
